The Perinatal Bereavement Certificate Program, made up of nine mini-modules, will equip health care professionals with the knowledge and resources needed to provide the highest level of compassionate and respectful care to families experiencing loss during childbearing years.
The modules include the following topics:
- Intro
- Defining Perinatal Loss
- Grief and Loss Theory
- Impact of Faith and Culture on Perinatal Loss
- Caring for the Family (Person and Family Unit)
- Decisions and Preferences (At Birth and Beyond)
- Perinatal Palliative Care
- Postpartum Care and Next Pregnancy
- Debrief and Self-care
- Competencies for Perinatal Loss
Learning Objectives:
- Analyze various types of perinatal loss.
- Formulate an individualized plan of care that supports the unique traditions and cultures of each family experiencing loss.
- Examine strategies to support parents and families through the process of grief in the perinatal period.
- Investigate how perinatal palliative care may support families to maximize the quality of life and comfort for newborns with life limiting conditions.
- Recognize the need for health care professionals to participate in debriefing and self-care strategies.
Nursing Contact Hours:
4.5 nursing contact hours (CNE available until May 23, 2026)

Requirements for Completion:
Complete a pre-test, the activity in its entirety, achieve a score of at least 80% on the posttest, and complete a participant evaluation.
