Less than 1% of obstetric patients are admitted to the ICU. The leading cause for ICU admissions are hypertensive disorders and obstetric hemorrhage. Regardless of patient location, caring for these women often involves a multidisciplinary team that includes providers and nursing staff from obstetrics, critical care, and the emergency department. These courses are designed to help you identify, assess, and manage women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and a postpartum hemorrhage in the intrapartum and postpartum period. You will learn the physiologic changes in pregnancy as well as additional risk factors that predispose pregnant women to hypertensive disorders and hemorrhage. Using critical thinking concepts presented in case study format, you will apply knowledge in the management of these women. The course content meets the Joint Commission requirements for PC 06.01.01 Reduce likelihood of harm related to maternal hemorrhage and PC.06.03.01
