Despite improvements in maternal care, thromboembolism remains one of the leading causes of maternal death in the United States. Maternal venous thromboembolism is an online course designed to help you identify, assess, and manage women with deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolus in pregnancy, intrapartum, and postpartum. You will learn the physiologic changes in pregnancy as well as additional risk factors that predispose pregnant women to thromboembolic events. Using critical thinking concepts presented in a case study format, you will apply knowledge of key pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies in the management of a woman with venous thromboembolism.
Recognize the epidemiology and incidence of venous thromboembolism in pregnancy.
Understand the mechanisms and pathogenesis of maternal venous thromboembolism.
Outline the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for women with thromboembolic disorders in pregnancy and postpartum.
Apply the concepts of nursing assessment and interventions to the plan of care in a case study format.
