Preeclampsia and Severe Hypertension is an online course designed to help you identify, assess, and manage pregnant women with preeclampsia and severe hypertension occurring during pregnancy and in the postpartum period. Through this course, you will explore the categories of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, the etiology of preeclampsia, as well as the effects of preeclampsia with severe and without severe features. You will learn interpretation and clinical implications of significant laboratory tests. Using critical thinking concepts presented in a case study format, you will apply knowledge of key pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies in the management of a woman with preeclampsia and severe hypertension.
At the completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Contrast hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
- Summarize the most common maternal complications of preeclampsia.
- Outline evidence-based management for pregnant women with severe hypertension.
- Apply concepts of nursing assessment and interventions to the plan of care in a case study.
