Maternal Health in Illinois: Key Findings and Potential Impact of COVID-19

This presentation will describe the most recent Illinois Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Report released by the Illinois Department of Public Health in April 2021. It will describe the key findings as related to chronic disease among birthing persons, severe maternal morbidity, and maternal mortality for Illinois residents. The presentation will also describe the Illinois process for reviewing pregnancy-associated deaths that is used to identify contributing factors to the death and develop recommendations for clinical practice, public health programs, and health policy. The presentation will end by sharing information about what is currently known about how maternal health has been impacted by COVID-19 and the circumstances of the pandemic.
