SPEAKERS:
Susan Drummond, MSN,C-EFM, received her BSN and MSN from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and is a Senior Associate in Obstetrics in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Her primary responsibility is providing continuing education courses through the Tennessee Perinatal Regionalization Program. She also works in Labor and Delivery where she has 27 years of experience as both a staff and charge nurse. She has been teaching EFM for over 20 years to nursing and medical students, nurses, and physicians. She is an AWHONN instructor in Intermediate and Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring. She is certified in EFM by both the National Certification Corporation and the Perinatal Quality Foundation. She speaks nationally in the areas of electronic fetal monitoring and high-risk obstetrics and is published in the areas of high-risk and critical care obstetric nursing.
Dr. Josh Blanchard, DC first attended Louisiana State University and graduated with a bachelor in Kinesiology – Human Movement. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University in Marietta, Georgia. While in graduate school Dr. Josh was exposed to another side of chiropractic, and that was perinatal and pediatric chiropractic care. Ever since then he’s been very active in the pediatric and perinatal community; even being named “the kid and pregnancy chiropractor” around town by some. Dr. Josh has received the following accreditations and membership credentials: Member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), Certification in Activator Methods™, Certification in the Webster Technique
Nikki Zerfas, BSN, NC-EFM, IBLCLC, SpBAP, SpBT is an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse who participates in the orientation and mentorship of new staff and works to bring educational opportunities to her colleagues, with emphasis on implementing physiology-based birth practices, continuous labor support, and emphasizing breastfeeding-friendly care of new families. She is especially focused on supporting physiological birth in complex medical situations. Nikki maintains her certifications in Electronic Fetal Monitoring and as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She continues to work as a bedside nurse at a teaching hospital and enjoys bringing birth workers of all disciplines together in the goal of improving the care and outcomes of new families.
LaShea Haynes, MEd, MSN, AGNCS-BC, APRN, RNC-EFM has been practicing in the area of obstetrical nursing for nearly 24 years. Her clinical and educational experience and expertise span labor/delivery, antepartum and mother/baby areas. LaShea is currently working as the clinical nurse specialist for women’s services at a large health system in Georgia. She is also a designated trainer in fetal monitoring instruction through AWHONN. LaShea has also worked as a nursing instructor and was the perinatal outreach educator for the north Georgia region. This allowed her to provide continual high-risk perinatal education to 36 different hospitals and to teach audiences across the region. LaShea holds two certifications through NCC and currently provides in-services and seminars nationally for Inpatient OB and EFM reviews respectively.
Objectives:
1. Describe intrapartum events that often are involved in allegations of malpractice
2. Describe the role of the soft tissues on fetal position and rotation
3. Review the role of chiropractics in newborns
4. Discuss how to avoid healthcare burnout
